Extreme Makeover
Extreme Make-over converts a storage closet!
As a designer, I always see the possibilities for creating magic in impossible spaces! Do you think it would be possible to convert a storage room into a fully functioning bedroom? No? Neither did my client! This room was a 57 sq. ft. storage room with no heating, windows, or even insulation!
It took some convincing and drawings to persuade my client it would not only be possible, but a lovely and prosperous change. It could be a fully functioning bedroom that she could rent out to exchange students while using the money to pay off her mortgage!
The goal was to create the best bedroom ever with the following necessities: a twin bed, room for storage, a desk, and a closet. By raising the bed up high, we created room underneath for storage, clothes, linens, and books, along with plenty of room for larger items (like suitcases.)
We could get away with a smaller closet because most students only bring two suitcases. Experience had taught us that young adults have small laptops and love to sit on the bed to work, study, or read, so a small desk that would fit in the space was just fine.
This is one of the projects I am most proud of because I designed and created the perfect room, and even though it’s small, as it turns out, the exchange students all fight over it because of its charm and functionality!
