Luxurious Master Retreat Suite
These homeowners asked me to come out to the Washington Islands to see if I had any ideas on how to improve and reconfigure their entire second floor to better utilize the square footage! There was plenty of space, but it was an awkward layout. When you entered the bedroom you would walk into the so called “nurse station,” an elevated room that overlooked the sunken master bedroom. This area was mainly useless and only served to add clutter with household items.
The goal was to create an elegant master bedroom that would overlook the lake, as well a dream walk-in-closet and a luxurious bathroom! This was a fun project to do because I could play with the entire floor, and we were able to get really creative since there was so much room to play with!
We decided to get rid of the “nurse station” and incorporate that entire space into a bathroom and master closet. We gained another 50 sq.ft of room just by closing it in!
We created a majestic entryway by putting up walls that clearly define all the spaces. The carpeted hallway will be torn up and that space will now become part of the master bathroom. We decided to leave the shower, toilet and vanity in the same spots to save some money during the remodel, but it all worked out beautifully! In the end we removed a wall that really opens up the space and gave the homeowners easier access to the shower.
One of the reasons we kept the vanity in the same place is that these homeowners have a gorgeous lake view that reflects through the mirrors! We didn’t want to give up such a lovely daily sight.
My client asked if I could give her a vanity/make-up station where she could sit down and get ready for her day. We created the perfect spot for her! I even gave her a window and we repurposed some of the cabinetry from the old nurse station.
This master bedroom is magnificent now! We have a bedroom that looks out over the lake with a closet twice as big! (And finally the way they wanted it to be!) And one of the best parts? The bathroom was transformed into a serene, charming, and luxurious mini-spa with a fireplace for a cozy ambiance.
