Bathroom Remodel: A dream comes true, clawfoot tub heaven

This homeowner reached out to me for help and guidance. After their bathtub/shower combination started leaking and the dogs got to the walls, she knew it was time for a remodel. They never did any changes to this bathroom after they moved in as it was working just fine for the kids. They even lived with the weird alcove that never quite blossomed as storage and linen closet.

At first they have hoped we might be able to fix certain spots, but they quickly saw this as a clean slate and finally saw their long awaited dream come true for a clawfoot tub.
Fitting in a clawfoot tub meant getting help from a designer, a designer who understand their vision, sees the potential of the space and actually knows how to make their dreams come true.

DESIGN ROUND #1
Here are my 3 designs for Design Round 1.
* In floor plan 1A and 1B I placed the clawfoot skirt tub next to a separate shower. With 2 linen cabinets and 2 pedestal sinks on one side, and a heated towel rack and some shelving close to the tub and shower.
We have a beautiful palette of tiles, they totally fell in love with at first glance. I had also brought all tile samples to make it really easy on them and no shopping trip needed. (That doesn’t always happen).

* In floor plan 2 we explored the option of losing the hallway linen closet to accommodate a bigger clawfoot tub. The only way to still have a separate shower is to create a Japanese wet room.

FINAL DESIGN

During my design presentation my clients were sure about the design they wanted and with some minor tweaking we got to the final design.
Slate blue skirt tub with a separate shower.
On the floor we will have brown wide wood plank tiles and the shower floor will have a teak mat. The shower will have large mat white vertical tiles with one accent wall in blue. This blue tiles has some texture to it. The soap niche will have the same blue, but then horizontally placed.
The rest of the bathroom will be wrapped like wainscoting with the same large white tiles 15”x30” (38cmx 76cm), horizontally laid.

REMODEL TO START JANUARY 20TH

Day I morning check-in.

End of day Demo has finished.
Demo is well on its way: sinks are gone, bath tub is gone, damaged dry wall, and the weird wall is gone.
Once the floor is demoed we can start building back up again.

FEBRUARY 2020 UPDATE
Demo has been finished, time to build back up.

Always nice to see pictures of the bathroom remodel.
The wood plank tile floor is in. The shower base is in. Pretty soon we can install the blue clawfoot tub.

MARCH UPDATE
Due to Corona we had to stop construction, and we were so close.

MAY UPDATE
We are allowed to finish our bathroom remodel.
Today I got to check it out.
We are only awaiting the faucets and the shower door.
It is looking amazing!
