This homeowner had been dreaming of a new and updated bathroom for the longest time.
Looking for the perfect designer, who shares her vision.
This bathroom has been like this from the day they moved in, and actually it has held up pretty nice for the last 30+ years.
The builder was a high-end construction builder, and it shows. Nothing is really broken, just outdated.
The one thing that is really weird is that we have a step-up in the middle in the bathroom, that now has become a tripping hazard.
And that is where we can come, how can we change the bathroom and make it more accessible while keeping all the pieces in this bathroom.
This bathroom has lots of light with extra windows and large skylight. Even a window in the separate toilet.
My client has expressed a preference for soothing and neutral materials with organic elements. New materials, new tiles, new bath tub a gut renovation and a refresh.
When I see a bathroom like this – I only see potential. My brain starts racing and I get all these great ideas. Now it is my time to design and crack the code of this space and give the homeowners the home they have desired for so long.
DESIGN PROCESS
The most important thing we do in this design is to get rid of the step that is in the middle of the bathroom and has become a tripping hazard.
In the First Design Round, it’s all about discovering the space, what options are there in this bathroom, finding the hidden potential, and exploring all the opportunities.
We are playing with the layout, the direction of the tub, different ideas for the vanity, and even changing the lay-out to create a smaller closet, yet more straight closet, and a shower with daylight.
Different materials, and accent walls. Changing flow and balance.
Design 1: closest to current situation. Updating and upgrading materials. Bathtub places on back wall. New 89” vanity with storage towers for him and her and extra can lights.
Design 2: Bathtub placed on side wall. New 86” vanity with storage tower in the middle, additional seat with bonus storage.
Design 4A: Changing the lay-out completely. Large shower with natural daylight. Enough room to walk around. Master Closet get new lay-out and toilet moves into partly shower/partly closet.
Large accent wall. New 72” double sink vanity with storage cabinet at entry.
Design 4B: Same as 4A. Different color scheme. Stacked stone accent wall. New 72” double sink vanity with his and hers storage cabinets.
Overview of the 4 floorplans.
Exploring 4 options for the double sink vanity.
I had already done some pre-shopping for tiles on my own, to show the clients the tiles during the First Design Round.
Bringing a large computer to look at all the designs in 3D and get a good feel for the space with all the different designs.
In Design Round #2, we have been exploring all options for the vanity. with 3 different designs.
Then it was time to visit the Kitchen/Bathroom showroom to look at options, colors, lay-outs and materials.

In Design Round #3, we have been exploring the lay-out in depth to see if we can use the triangle space that we have created by getting rid of some weird spaces.
DR#3-Floor plan-1 Design closest to current situation. Bathtub placed along vanity wall. Storage cabinet behind vanity. New 90” vanity with 12” deep storage towers (him/hers) and extra can lights.DR#3-Floor plan-2 Smaller shower pan. Larger storage cabinet behind vanity. New 90” vanity with 9” deep storage towers (him/hers) and top cap with lights.
Also, time to finalize on the all the tiles.
And then on the hottest day of the year we looked at a custom remnant slab to go on our custom vanity.
In Design Round #4, we are finalizing the triangle, going back to a slightly large shower and just has some empty space between the walls.
And then the Design Journey comes to an end with the FINAL DESIGN MOOD BOARD.
Everything has been finalized, lay-out, materials, tile instructions and components.
DEMO TIME
Always so exciting, as we are finally starting the remodel. We have been looking forward to this day for such a long time.
And now it is finally happening!

Only thing is left is the photo shoot.
