New Interior Design project: helping my clients with a smooth transition to their new construction home, creating designs for the entire main floor including his home office.
It will be a combination of midcentury modern, some existing pieces, and some traditional furniture.
SEPTEMBER 2018 DESIGNING
Sharing the designs for the client presentation. The clients asked me to design the interior for their new construction home. Requesting to keep some of their current furniture and maybe add some new pieces.
We did the presentation at my Bellevue office: showing the 4 different floor plans on the big computer, seeing what it looks like before they make any decisions and imagine what it looks like in their new home.
In total we/they had to choose from 20 different scenarios. That seems quite a lot, however I narrowed it down into the 5 different sections: office, living room, area under large soffit, dining room and kitchen. And everything can be mixed and matched.
They were blown away by this presentation, quality and professionality: they could easily make the decisions, while in real-time I adjusted the final floor plan, sending them home with the plan and they were just in time to order the furniture while it was still on sale that weekend.
DECISSION PROCESS AND MOOD BOARD EXPLANATION
Sharing some more about how this final mood board came to be and what design choices we made.
In total we/they had to choose from 20 different scenarios.
That seems quite a lot, however I narrowed it down into the 5 different sections.
1.Office
Giving him the most beautiful space with a new desk and new chair. Two matching bookcases with brass on either side to fully benefit the height and width of this office and the brass color will be repeated with the hanging shelves and the new desk lamp. For the walls I am going really daring: dark gray, light gray and a gold/yellow accent wall.
2.Living room
My client had their eyes on this mid century sofa. We were going back and forth between light gray and green. In the end we decided on light gray with two yellow accent chair. And the yellow color ties perfectly with the existing yellow barstools.
My client are also bring their cherished Eames chair a beautiful classic chair, and I found the perfect spot in the living room. This chair really compliments the look and feel of the sitting area. We can easily have 6 persons sit and have a conversation. We are repurposing the area rug and coffee table.
3. Area under large soffit
Then we have this weird area in the back of the living room, that screamed for something creative. The options with the two bookcases and bench made the most sense. The homeowners have a lot of books and this way we can store them all. The bench double as storage for the kids toys. The bench also encourages to sit down and grab a book. I tried to be very consistent with the colors and materials throughout the house so I picked these bookcases that are reclaimed pine with metal bars to create a contemporary rustic library look.
4.Dining room
For the dining room we wanted clean and simple with enough room to have a people over for a dinner party.
We picked a 6-person walnut table with steel legs and paired that with walnut chairs with dark gray/black fabric which ties in with the black in the Eames chair and the black in the bench.
5. Kitchen
In the end we tried to keep the kitchen and clean and empty as possible, we added a 4th yellow barstool to complete the look.
Very soon we will have the first deliveries coming in.
